Check CIBIL score by PAN Card without OTP: what is possible and what is not

Last updated:

PAN details alone are not enough to securely access your CIBIL report. Our free check uses a mobile OTP, while RBI requires bureaus to authenticate the person requesting their free annual report. You can get your free score and report once per calendar year directly from CIBIL, but you must verify your identity first.

Can you check your CIBIL score by PAN Card without OTP?

A legitimate platform that lets you check your CIBIL score or report must strictly follow RBI guidelines for verification. A site that asks only for your PAN and date of birth may be collecting leads or posing a fraud risk, since these details appear on many documents.

For a legitimate check, you have three routes. You can use your one free annual report from CIBIL’s official site, which requires identity verification. You can also check through your bank’s net banking portal, if they offer it. Alternatively, you can use our free CIBIL Score check, which starts with a mobile OTP and then asks for your PAN.

What does the OTP check, and why isn’t PAN alone enough?

PAN (Permanent Account Number) is a unique 10-character alphanumeric tax ID issued by India’s Income Tax Department to track financial transactions. OTP verification confirms access to the registered phone or email used for the check and helps protect against unauthorised access.

Your PAN Card is the key that unlocks your single credit file, because lenders must report your loan data against a unique identifier like your PAN. That is precisely why the bureau will not give that file to someone who merely knows the number.

An OTP helps verify that you can access the phone number or email address used for authentication. Separately, bureaus must send SMS or email alerts when an enquiry appears in your credit report, provided your contact details are available. Keep those details up to date so you can spot unauthorised enquiries.

What to do when your usual mobile number is not available

If you cannot receive the OTP on your usual number, try the following options.

  • Use the free check at Piramal Finance. Start with your current mobile number for the OTP, then give your PAN and address. This is a soft enquiry and does not affect your score. Complete any additional identity checks requested.
  • Call CIBIL’s customer support at 022-61404300 between 10 AM and 6 PM, Monday to Saturday. Ask how to complete identity verification or update your account contact details. Have your loan or credit card account details ready if requested.
  • Update your mobile number with each lender and with CIBIL as needed. Lenders report demographic changes using reference dates of the 9th, 16th, 23rd and last day of each month. Incremental files are due within four calendar days of the first three dates; the month-end file is due by the 5th of the following month.

Checking your own score does not reduce it, OTP or no OTP

Checking your own credit score does not affect it. This applies whether you use a one-time password or not. Self-enquiries are considered soft checks. A lender’s check when you apply for credit may have a marginal impact, especially if you apply too often in a short period.

CIBIL recommends checking your score at least once a month to monitor for errors. You can do this through your bank’s net banking portal, CIBIL’s official website, or our free monthly check, which won’t affect your score.

CIBIL Score range:

Your CIBIL Score ranges from 300 to 900.

  • CIBIL says a score closer to 900 is considered good.
  • Lenders generally consider a score above 700 good. Our score bands state that 750–900 is excellent, 650–749 is considered good, 500–649 falls under the fair range, and typically, 300–499 is considered poor. These are educational bands, not Piramal Finance eligibility criteria.
  • Loan eligibility: Minimum score requirements vary by lender and product.

Important: A score alone does not guarantee approval. Lenders also consider factors such as income, existing debt, and age.

Note: If your report shows NA or NH, it means you have no credit history or too little data for a score. A score may be unavailable if you don’t have enough recent credit activity.

The free bureau report, and what to do if something on it is wrong?

The official CIBIL website lets you download a free credit report annually and outlines how to raise a dispute if you find errors in your credit report. They are:

  • Free annual report: You can get one free CIBIL Report per calendar year from the bureau’s official website.
  • Verify your accounts: Use the full report to check whether all accounts linked to your PAN actually belong to you.
  • Raise a dispute: CIBIL provides a free dispute process if you find an error.
  • Report validity: You must raise the dispute using a report issued within the previous 60 days.
  • Resolution timeline: The lender or bureau must resolve an eligible credit-information correction complaint within 30 calendar days of its initial filing.
  • Compensation for delay: If it remains unresolved beyond that period, RBI’s framework provides compensation of ₹100 per calendar day of delay, subject to its conditions.

Regularly reviewing your report helps you spot incorrect information and correct genuine errors.
