What is Sanchar Saathi?

Sanchar Saathi is a citizen-centric initiative by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India. It helps mobile users report suspected fraud, check mobile connections issued in their name, block lost or stolen phones and verify if a handset is genuine. It is available as a web portal (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in) and as a mobile app on Android and iOS.

What is Chakshu on Sanchar Saathi?

Chakshu is the Sanchar Saathi feature for reporting suspected fraud communication received through call, SMS or WhatsApp. This includes fake KYC update requests, fake customer care numbers, fake loan or job offers, impersonation of government officials or relatives, and messages containing malicious links. You can also use it to report spam or unsolicited commercial calls and SMS.

I received a call or message claiming to be from Piramal Finance. What should I do?

Do not share your OTP, PIN, passwords or bank details, and do not click on any links. Report the number on Chakshu and verify the communication with us on our toll-free number 1800 266 6444 or our official WhatsApp number 7799000390. You can also raise a complaint with us.

How can I check how many mobile numbers are registered in my name?

Log in to Sanchar Saathi using an OTP and open "Know Your Mobile Connections". You will see all mobile connections issued in your name and can mark any of them as "Not my number" or "Not required". These are then flagged for re-verification by the telecom operator. An individual can hold a maximum of 9 mobile connections across all operators in India (6 in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and the Northeastern states).

My phone was lost or stolen. How do I block it?

File a police report, get a duplicate SIM for your number from your telecom operator, and submit a blocking request on Sanchar Saathi along with a copy of the police report and an ID proof. Once the request is submitted successfully, the phone is blocked within 24 hours and cannot be used on any network in India.

How do I check if a phone is genuine before buying it?

Dial *#06# to see the phone's IMEI number or find it on the box or invoice. Then send an SMS "KYM <15-digit IMEI>" to 14422, or check it on the Sanchar Saathi portal or app. If the status shows as blacklisted, duplicate or already in use, avoid buying that phone. This is especially useful when buying a used phone.
