Markandey Upadhyay is the Chief Data & Analytics Officer at Piramal Finance Limited, where he leads the organization’s transformation into an AI Native, data-driven enterprise.

With over 20 years of experience, he specializes in artificial intelligence, data science, risk analytics, and marketing intelligence. He has built and scaled advanced analytics ecosystems that drive growth, risk management, and profitability, including large-scale AI applications across credit risk, fraud detection, and collections.

He joined Piramal Finance in 2021 as Head of Business Intelligence Unit (Retail Finance), where he established high-performance analytics capabilities.

Prior to this, he served as SVP & Head of Risk Analytics at Axis Bank and held leadership roles at HSBC and GE Capital.

Markandey is passionate about leveraging AI and technology to expand access to credit across underserved “Bharat” segments. He is an alumnus of IIT Bombay and the University of Birmingham and has completed executive education at IIM Ahmedabad.

He is also a recognized industry speaker and has been featured among top AI leaders.
